Batik Day at School: Celebrating Creativity and Cultural Heritage

Moslem Binus International School held a vibrant and meaningful School Exhibition themed Batik Day, bringing color, creativity, and cultural pride to the school environment. Students enthusiastically participated in a series of activities, from showcasing their own batik artworks to learning about various traditional batik motifs and the philosophies behind them.

The school atmosphere came alive with beautiful batik fabrics displayed throughout the campus, reflecting the richness and depth of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

Learning the Meaning Behind Batik

During the exhibition, students explored different batik patterns from across the Indonesian archipelago. They learned that batik is not only an art form but also a cultural expression filled with history, values, and symbolism.

Through guided explanations and discussions, students gained a deeper appreciation of how batik represents identity, tradition, and national pride.

Hands-On Batik Dyeing Experience

Beyond observing, students were also given the opportunity to create their own tie-dye batik through a hands-on activity. By dipping, tying, and blending colors, they experienced the batik-making process firsthand.

This activity helped students develop:

  • Patience through careful dyeing steps

  • Attention to detail during the process

  • Creativity in combining colors and patterns

The experience became a meaningful moment that encouraged students to express themselves while learning the value of perseverance.

Fostering Love for Local Culture

Batik Day was not only a creative activity but also a valuable learning experience that strengthened students’ sense of cultural identity and love for Indonesia. By engaging directly with batik art, students developed pride in local heritage and a stronger appreciation for Indonesian culture.

At M-BIS, cultural education plays an important role in shaping globally minded students who remain rooted in strong values.
